Today's lesson: LEADERSHIP

If we had to describe leadership potential using a single factor, it would be Dynamism. This complex trait goes together with several predispositions relevant to leadership, including initiative and assertiveness, willingness to take risks and openness to change. Leadership has many forms, however. Team work makes this particularly visible: an attentive observer will notice at least three leadership roles — strategist, tactician and caregiver. These roles complement each other, and a well-composed team needs all three. One person does not always have predispositions for all three roles at once. Sometimes the formal leader is a strategist or tactician, while an informal leader takes the caregiver role. A strategist's strengths include Dynamism and low Conventionality. A tactician scores higher on Conscientiousness and Deliberateness than a strategist, while a caregiver has a stronger prosocial orientation than either. When estimating leadership potential, remember that at least three leadership roles can be distinguished.
